Achieving Athletic Excellence

Mark "The Speaker Man" Wiggins
Almost 100 students will participate in the Achieving Athletic Excellence Conference to be held in Sterling, VA on September 25, 2010. The goal is to address some of the basic life skills needed for student-athletes to excel in their sport and their studies. The students will also hear valuable presentations to prepare them for college on the topics of NCAA Eligibility Requirements and SAT preparation.

The featured speaker, Mark Wiggins, is a former student-athlete, University of Alabama-Huntsville Hall of Fame Basketball Player, Entrepreneur, Published Author, International Motivational Speaker, and now resident of Loudoun County for almost 20 years.

“The student‐athlete has to juggle two separate roles and two separate sets of responsibilities—all while discovering who they are as individuals beyond athletics,” says Wiggins. “This lifestyle can create pressures or stresses that many students are not aware exist. While the athlete may possess a few more tools in their tool box to deal with these issues, most have not be trained or taught how to use them outside of their sport.”

Students will be able to work with their peers from other schools to develop action plans for improving a positive athletic culture in the school system.

“Our main objective is for students to leave the conference with the fundamental information needed to transform from the student athlete of today into the future leader of tomorrow,” states Sharon A. Myers, Executive Director of Moovin4ward Presentations.

The event will be held at the Springhill Suites by Marriott hotel in Sterling, VA and is hosted by the MTXE Foundation and Moovin4ward Presentations.
